"The forecast was a nice Spring day. I travelled to Willow Grove, Icy Creek and around to Tooronga Link Road, then around to the locked gate on Mt Tooronga Road to park. I walked up the track to the high point, then ascended up to the summit of Peak 1258 m VK3/VT-026. I set up the radio gear on the summit and made 5 contacts before packing up and retracing my approach route to the car. I then drove back to Link Rd, then north and around to Corn Hill Road and up to Mt Matlock VK3/VC-001. I set up the radio gear near the trig, making 11 contacts. I packed up and headed down to Matlock, then south to Aberfeldy and to the cemetery car park to set up on Mount Lookout VK3/VT-030, making 13 contacts. I packed up and drove back onto the main road, heading south and across the Thomson Dam wall to Rawson, then home. A lovely day out," — peterfreeman • Sep 16, 2020

"A day of driving on winding mountain roads, mostly unsealed. Drove from home to Trafalgar and then north to Icy Creek and towatrds Tanjil Bren. Up the Link road to Mt Toorongo Road to the locked gate and then walked up the track and a final short scrub bash up the hill to the summit of Peak 1258 m VK3/VT-026. Activated for SOTA by making 5 contacts on 2 m FM after finding a fault with the HF radio. Packed up and returned to the car. Drove back to the link road and headed towards Matlock and up to Mount Matlock VK3/VC-001. Activated the summit on HF. Returned to the car and drove down to Matlock, then south to Aberfeldy and to the cemetery car park. Activated Mount Lookout VK3/VT-030. "A long day driving around the Thomson River catchment. Drove to the locked gate on Mount Tooronga Road to park. Walked up the road and climbed to the summit of Peak 1258 m VK3/VT-026. Set up the radio gear and made 10 contacts. Packed up and returned to the car. Drove around to Mount Matlock VK3/VC-001 and set up close to the trig. Made 15 contacts before packing up. "On yet another nice Spring day, I headed out to Willow Grove, on to Icy Creek and around to the locked gate on Mount Tooronga Track. I walked up the track to the high point below Peak 1258 m and then climbed up to the summit. I set up the radio gear to activate VK3/VT-026, making 20 contacts. Drove up to the summit of Mount Matlock and set up close to the trig to activate VK3/VC-001, making 13 contacts. Packed up and drove around to Aberfeldy and to the cemetery car park and the summit of Mount Lookout VK3/VT-030. "A long day of SOTA with an unexpected surprise. Left home and drove towards Tanjil Bren and up to Mount Toorongo Track, parking near the locked gate. Walked up the track to the high point and climbed up to the summit of Peak 1258 m / Mt Toorongo Range VK3/VT-026. I made 30 contacts over 2 hours. I packed up and walked back to the car. I drove back to the link road and headed north, making my way to Mount Matlock VK3/VC-001. Walked up to the summit and set up the gear, making 12 contacts. I packed up and headed back to the car, and drove around to Mount Selma VK3/VT-013. I again walked up to the summit and set up the radio gear, making 26 contacts. I returned to the car and drove to South Road and headed south. Along the way, I hit one pothole (of many) and soon after the engine started sounding rough.
The engine temperature rose rapidly and the engine stopped, all very rapidly. I disengaged the gears and coasted to a stop at a wider point of the road close to a road junction. After engaging the hand brake, I jumped out of the car. As I exitted, I noticed burning oil dropping from the right hand side of the engine behind the front wheel. i quickly alerted a fried who was about 10 ..." — peterfreeman • Sep 26, 2015

"First day of two with Warren VK3KS as company. Drove to the locked gate on Mt Toorongo Track to park. Walked up the track and climbed to the summit of Peak 1258 m VK3/VT-026. Set up the radio gear and made 21 contacts before packing up and heading back down to the car. Drove to Noojee and then towards Powelltown to The Bump, then north on Big Creek Road to park near the junction with Black Sands Road. Climbed up though the logging coupe to reach the summit of Hyde Hill VK3/VC-008. Set up the gear and made 20 contacts. "A day out to hopefully collect some SOTA seasonal bonus points. Drove from home towards Tanjil Bren, then up Toorongo Link Road and into Mundic Road and finally Mt Toorongo Track. Parked by the locked gate and climbed up the track to the high point below the summit, then scrambled up to the summit VK3/VT-026. Set up the radio gear and worked 32 stations. Packed up and mad my back to the car. Drove back to the Mt Baw Baw Tourist Road, to Noojee and around to The Bump and then north on Big Creek Road. Pared near the junction with Blacksands Road and climbed up through a regenerating logging coupe and up to the summit of Hyde Hill VK3/VC-008. Set up the radio gear and made 22 contacts. Packed up and returned to the car. Decided that as it was only mid-afternoon, I would head to Warburton and up to Donna Buang VK3/VC-002. I parked in the top car park and walked up to the summit. Set up a short distance to the west, away from other visitors. I made 19 contacts before the rain became heavier, so I closed down and returned to the car.
