Upon reaching the saddle steps some easy Class 3 and an interesting “baby knife edge” with available work-arounds, mostly on the south side. The crux is the down-climb into the final notch. I’d rate it C4- mostly because of the steepness combined with loose rock and dirt with odd angles and slick grassy patches with spiky vegetation interspersed. Generally unpleasant but only a 20’ pitch or so. The final climb out of the notch (C3) is the most enjoyable and probably the best rock quality along the ridge. It was 4:30 so I had 5 miles to cover in an hour and a half. After 12 miles already logged for the day, I wasn’t sure how my knees were going to hold up but it was worth trying (our vehicles were parked an additional 4 miles from the TH!)
