10/17/21: Day 2 of Wigwam Park-West backpack. Hiked in to Wigwam Park from Rolling Creek TH on Saturday to (West) Camp #2. Site is Prime! Backpacked back out on Day 3 (Monday).
Approached Peak 10926 off Wigwam Trl just past the beaver ponds (old bull moose on trail!) from the northeast up the nose of the ridge leading to the saddle (10,452’). Fairly straightforward line up from the north staying to the right of the increasing cliff band. Decent amount of lingering snow from a couple days back but managed without any trax, mostly following a bobcat track following a mouse track! At the head wall, spent some time scoping out options and then donned the Ascent Trax for an attempt. Basically the route was along a lower bench heading to the left, and then a short narrower one to the right, and then a Class 3 scramble up and leaning left to the upper broad bench. There may be two options here: to the right it gets very ledgy (with no clear way up yet) and to left it’s an easy walk around the west wall to the upper broad bench on the east side. Awesome views south to the west gates of the Lost Creek as well as Bison Peak and back down Wigwam Creek. Here there is a large opening to a cave/tunnel going up and into the dome rock and comes out on the west side at the top. There is a gnarly ledge here that I believe allows you to touch the summit rock. A very interesting climb to be sure! Returned to camp by circling around the base of the peak to the south, to its broad flat saddle at 10,600’, and down the drainage of the headwaters of Wigwam Creek and past the old moose. (4.4/1000)
