"Another great short hike just outside Winthrop. Took the North Loop Trail up to the top and back, and even though the views from the get-go were amazing, the views on top were pretty incredible, given its relatively short height and the relatively easy hike to the summit. Overall rating 8/10, the perfect hike for a taste of what it's like to hike in the Methow Valley, with incredible views of all the high peaks that surround the town: definitely the go-to hike if you want to do a nice hike right outside Winthrop without too much work or too much driving" — MountainQuest • Jun 24, 2021
"Took a family hike up to Patterson Mountain near Winthrop. Patterson Mountain is a hill right outside Winthrop near Sun Mountain Lodge. It turned out that most of the hike was actually though range land, so there are plenty of cow pies on the trail, and plenty of cows wondering the hill. This takes away from any feeling of being in the wilderness, but the kids enjoyed watching the cows, so it was ok. The terrain is mostly sandy open slope with bushes. There are a few clumps of trees, but most of the trail will be very hot on a sunny summer day with almost no cover. From the top you can see the Methow River Valley, Winthrop, and several of the larger mountains in the area. A nice feature is that this is a loop, so you follow a different trail back. No snow, no bugs, no water available on the trail." — MangyMarmot • Jul 2, 2012
