"This was a planned 3 to 4 day trip to try and get Castle Towers and the Sphinx. Enroute to the area where we were going we had to climb Panorama Ridge Genetian Peak and Polemonum . The first day was cool and misty. We could not see Castle towers when we stood on Panorama. After climbing Panorama we hiked down to the glacier in behind the cinder cone and set our camp. The next day we woke to a beautiful sunny day. We carried our gear to Genitan on or way to Carley Towers, " — andrewbrintnell1 • Jun 18, 1989
"This was a solo trip. I got up early and drove up to the Black Tusk Parking lot. I did the first 4 km in the dark. I was able to hike up on foot for the first 6 km. I put my ski,s on at Taylor Meadows. When I got to the ridge I was able to take my ski,s off as the wind had swept it away. I was very fast and got home before it was dark. "Andrew T and I had planned a 3 day trip off the main trail to explore the ridges and peaks on the North Shore of Garibaldi Lake. I had studied the Topo Maps and a route from Panorama Ridge onto Gentian Peak and down into the col and back up Polemonium Ridge . From the Polemonium we could descend down 3000 ft toSphinx Bay on the lake where a climbers cabin was located. The hike up Panorama was uneventful and a steady uphill. At the top of Panorama we were in a heavy misty cloud. We could not see the route. The weather was getting worse by the minute. We had planned to try to get to the Sphinx Hut via the ridge walk. This was not possible due to deterioration of the weather. We climbed down to the col between Genitan and Panorama. It was now raining. We followed the valley between the two ridges down to the lake . At the lake edge we bushwhacked along the shore around a ridge into the Sphinx valley. We saw the cabin and we had a nice dry shelter on a wet cool night.
The rest of the trip details will be on the Genitlan Peak and Polemonium climbs on 1983 08 04 log.
