2.12.2021~Solo, 7 peak Mondo Knife Edge Ridge traverse of a sub ridge in the Frenchman Range/Rainbow Gardens (a parallel ridge directly East of Frenchman Mtn.) Hanging Valley, Knife-Edge, 3,078’, Painted Hills, Kodachrome, 2,742’, and 2,572’ Peaks. 8.5 miles, 2,500’ gain in 6:30hrs. 6.5 miles of the the 8.5 was sustained ridge surfing on some of the gnarliest exposed knife edges I’ve ever experienced. The distances of these stressful sections were never ending and eventually numbed my fear and I worked through them without emotions and with surgical precision. What I went thru today, broke me of my “kryptonite knife edge-syndrome.” When I planned this workout the night prior, I figured it to be a great workout and a piece of cake....but viewing and mapping the gps route from my cozy couch with my rose colored glasses on....I GREATLY underestimated it...AS USUAL!!! When I arrived at my starting point, I ate breakfast and waited out the morning rain storm in my car. The sky cleared so it set off on my workout. The Cool morning breezes eventually disappeared and it was extremely hot for the rest of the day. I suffered a lot even with a high of only 65 deg. I can’t imagine how hot this area gets in the Summer. I was sliced and diced all day by the carnivorous limestone and barrel cactuses. My hands and feet were pulverized and shredded. I realized I wouldn’t be able to loop back to my car as I was running out of the 1.5 liters of water I brought so I sent Jimmy coordinates for a pick up on the edge of town. (top of Sahara rd) Thanks my Love! I was determined to devour this entire ridge today. I consumed only 90 calories the entire trek (an applesauce and a half a gel.) Twas an epic and satisfying day. The views were some of the best I’ve seen in our area. It was hot so I took off my shirt and tied it to my pack and the Mtn snagged it off without me noticing! Darn. I liked that shirt. I don’t think the gain on this is accurate. I felt like 4,000’ gain.
