"I didn't make it to this old friend when I was coming down the Wapack Tr. in May, so I came up from the Temple Mt. pkg. lot this time, using the sometimes very rocky Wapack Tr. to the summit. Took some photos from the fire tower, did a side trip to Spruce Knoll lookout and the summit loop trail before continuing up the Wapack to Middle Pack where I left off the last time (although I didn't whack to the true summit this time), thus completing this section. On my way back, I had planned on coming down the M. Davis Tr. but got caught in a downpour just as I was reentering the state park. Having been soaked all through I just hurried down the auto road back. It was a wet drive home!" — SteveM_StickMan • Jul 13, 2020
"Hiked via Raymond Trail. The parking lot only has three spaces. If that is full there is another park with a lot a little further down Old Mountain Rd. I ran the trail with my golden retriever in 66 minutes for a 3.5 mile round trip. We took time to stop at the pools made by a mountain stream to cool off and enjoyed the view from the top until we realized that as soon as you stop the bugs get bad. Fairly clear but could not see Boston. The Park does charge through-hikers who enter the park so be prepared to deposit $4 per adult at the top. Leash laws are strictly enforced at the top so make sure to have your leash with you. There is a challenging rock section near the top for those with small dogs and children or for those who are not accustomed to strenuous activity. Great hike. Happy to summit another fire-tower. "Hiking early this morning with my wife. West side of mountain windy and cold as was the summit. Minimal mud with some wet granite due to yesterdays thunderstorms .Met about 10-15 people on the trail, most maintained social distancing but we were the only ones masked. No insects, probably due to the high wind. Descent along the Marion Davis trail was warmer and less windy. Nice morning outing." — rjnick • May 16, 2020
"Started off 24 oF with a little bit of a wind. Climbing up the Wapack trail from Miller State Park, encountered ever increasing patches of ice on the granite slabs. Most could be stepped around, or so I thought! I moved off of the trail to let a quicker pair of hikers pass me, slid on the ice and took a tumble, snapping one of my hiking poles in the process. Only injury was to my pride. I donned the micro spikes and continued which was a good call because the ice became more of a hazard higher up on the mountain. Beautiful views at the summit; could see all the way to Mt. Washington. Descended the Marion Davis Trail which had far less ice, being eastern exposure and the sun had some time to work on the trail." — rjnick • Nov 23, 2019
"started out from Mountain Road parking lot and went south along the Wapack trail to Pack Monadnock. took the the Cliff trail loop on the way back. After crossing over North Pack on our way out we ended up assisting another hiker who injured her knee and could not continue out on her own." — k2rider123 • Oct 13, 2019
"Beautiful day.Hit the Wapack traill at 8 a.m. and about 6 or 7 cars in the lot. VERY windy but no blowdowns on the trail. Davis trail on leeward side of mountain was warm with no wind at all. Saw two red-tailed hawks from summit." — rjnick • May 5, 2018
"Hiked the Wapack Trail from the Miller State Park parking lot to the northern terminus. Beautiful views, windy on all 3 summits. Excruciatingly long road walk back to my car, haha!" — HikeLikeMike • Feb 4, 2017
"The trail was in great shape today with only a few soggy spots from the freezing rain we received yesterday. It was extremely well blazed and only had a few steep pitches toward the end of the hike. The view was clear as could be at the top and we even spotted Boston through the haze from the lookout at the summit." — HikeLikeMike • Mar 26, 2016
"This is a repeat of the summit. It's not only a county highpoint but also has a fire tower which is listed as one of 16 New Hampshire fire towers. I needed to go back today and get a photo of the tower." — StoneMan • Jun 7, 2015
"Surprised to see the main parking area so full on Monday in late December. Our accent was via the Marion Davis trail (a first). Summit included the top of the firetower plus a side trail adventure on the Spruce Knoll trail through a thick grove of spruce to a vista on the south side. Descended on the Wapack south (also a first time on that small section of the Wapack) 3.3 mile loop. A warm 40 degree Winter day." — mikezilla • Dec 29, 2014
