Granite was the first of 2 on a lovely January day. I hiked up 3N17 from Pony Park just by Mill Creek Summit. I joined 3N90 at the crest and found the use trail branching off the north ridge. I had to visit 3-4 bumps on the plateau to make sure that I found the actual summit, as it is hard to tell which is the highest, which meant dodging some deadfall and old poodle-dog bush (successfully thankfully!!). The views are fantastic. The Sierra Nevadas are easily visible. I then went back to 3N17 to summit Pacifico. Second of 2 peaks after Granite Mtn, Pacifico was a lovely walk up 3N17. I could not believe that it has taken me so long to visit this awesome mountain! Sure, there is much fire damage from 2009, but there are some lovely trees on the top and ridge that survived the infrerno! I followed 3N17 to the spur, which went up about a mile to the summit campground. The summit has a class-4 block (beyond my scope of experience), but I scrambled up some boulders around it and found the benchmark and register. The views are fantastic. I could easily pick out Olancha Peak (12,123') on the Tulare/Inyo County line!!!! The high Sierra Nevada (the 13'ers and 14'ers) could be seen as well to the left of Olancha! I went down the steep use path down the west side of the peak back down to 3N17 and returned the way I started. Snow was present in areas, and some ice made some slippery areas, but were generally avoidable with carefully planned footsteps, so no need for crampons, as it had mostly melted after a warm storm a few days back brought rain to eat at the snow pack.
