"8/3/24: From the Mayflower Hill saddle, Jackson and I could plainly see the extended crux of the main problem of the West Ridge-Direct route up Pacific. However, it gave no real indication of the “how” to the “what”. We progressed up the talus and boulder field to around 12,600 as potential options came into clearer focus. The “main problem” of the West Ridge-Direct is an imposing double-stacked dihedral (hereto known as the DoubleStack) with no obvious route without protection. If you don’t know what a dihedral is, then this is probably not the route for you. This large and obstructing feature can be bypassed to climber’s right, up approximately 250’ of rotten talus and sliding scree, and rejoins the ridge proper for continued and sustained Class 3 scrambling to the summit.

"Finally bagged Crystal after 2 previous attempts. Repeated Pacific and Atlantic for fun. Surprisingly Atlantic's west ridge was holding snow real well and posed the most dangerous part of the day: https://youtu.be/bDvOmzd3J5Q
River running high. Crossed at the dam near the trailhead so I can't speak for the gulch crossing but it's probably pretty wet. Avoided willow bashing on the way up Mayflower Hill but managed to hit every one on the way down." — cheeseishappiness • Jun 16, 2024
