"Before heading home from the holiday weekend I picked off a couple of small peaks. Both had fantastic views but the Lookout was the better of the two. Of course it helped to have the trail and summit to myself. The trail to Owls Head Lookout was also more pleasant." — Nimblefoot • May 29, 2023

"Tom, Black and I left the trailhead at 10:15 am in heavy fog at 34 degrees. Micros car to car. Trail soft but in good shape. No views at summit due to fog. Rain began shortly after returning. " — garyogden • Dec 31, 2021

"Owls Head Lookout, surprisingly I have yet to do this trail and made quick work of it to the summit in about 30 minutes. Having lost 40 pounds since October, I’m moving a lot quicker when I do get hiking opportunities; even more so than when I first started the 46ers. It feels good. This was actually a plan B as I intended to head into Lincoln, Vermont to hike Mount Abraham and Ellen but wasn’t feeling the best and lack of sleep has been catching up to me lately, but it was still a pleasant morning. A solo trip up and not another soul around at the the top. I’m not sure if people don’t like hiking with me or the other way around? The peace however is just the same either way. I don’t get many opportunities as in the past with the mountains but makes it more appreciative all the more." — scottturner • Jun 27, 2021

"Previous plans changed, so Today we decided to hit the Lookout and Snow (Alternate 29ers) to finish the ADK 29er challenge. A great hike, with a fantastic effort/reward ratio. Not too long of a trail, and not very steep or challenging at all. Last section just before the summit is steep, but nothing major. Views from the top are fantastic. You get good views of RPR, Giant, Bald, Hurricaine, Green, and the Green Mountains in VT. Peak 28/29 in our 29er quest." — HikingViking • Jan 27, 2018

"We did a crazy bushwhack over Green - started at the trail head to Owls Head Lookout, climbed Owls Head and then started down the valley trail that leads to the Lean-to and the back side of Giant. About 0.3 miles from the junction of Owls Head with the trail we turned and began the bushwhack up the lower peak in front of the ridge-line for Green. The initial bushwhack up was similar to a Catskill bushwhack with the leaves and the lowland brush whipping you but changed quickly after we emerged onto the slide, checked out the views and then pushed along the Green ridge. This part of the whack was over 1.25 miles and was extremely dense - we moved at less than 0.5 mph at many areas and it took us 2 hours to reach the 'summit'. For the summit there are no views but we did go trough the woods toward the western ridge a short distance to look through the trees toward the back of Giant. From this point forward we chose to bushwhack down to the lean-to and then take the trail towards Hopkins out as we had staged a car on 73. Tough 12+ mile day but a fun one." — deb-and-rob • Nov 21, 2015

"Day after 46er Spring Meeting, met trail crew at North Trail to Giant trailhead. Very hard work digging out behind water bars, putting in stone, etc. I fell asleep trailside TWICE. I realized that I would find other ways to help out the Forty Sixers. Nice lunch break on Owl's Head Lookout, good bonding time with fellow members." — barbaratraver • May 27, 1990
