"Climbing Orlovets peak via Petlite with a detour to the Monk’s Tomb (Groba na Monaha). To the south of the Malyovishki Traverse between Orlovets and Petlite, west of the Blue Chute (one of the Evil Streams), lies the Monk’s Grave. There is a metal plate attached to a wooden cross, with information about the deceased Vladimir Sprostranov, born in 1911, died in 1931. Below the name is the inscription “From his mother”. There is an announcement about the incident in the magazine Bulgarian Tourist, issue 9 from November 1931. Vladimir Sprostranov was left at the Rila Monastery by his mother to spend the summer. On August 25, together with two elderly tourists, they went on a trip to the mountains. Enthusiastic about climbing, he separated from his companions and fell from a height of 300 meters. As it was getting dark, one of his companions returned to the monastery while the other stayed with the body. The next day, an expedition was organized which barely found him. It was not possible to transport the body, so Sprostranov was buried at the scene of the accident." — borisv • Oct 22, 2024
