"2.1.2021~Welcome February! Opal Peak (#2), Daydream Point, Keyhole Peak & 4,665’, Monday, Quad peak, Quad Massacre. Solo. 9.5 miles, 3,700’ gain. My 2WD Kia took on The well groomed Nelson Cutoff Rd like a champ. She’s a giver of joy. I love this area. Enough said. " — paula.raimondi • Feb 1, 2021
"Easiest peakbag ever. Took the Subaru out into the backroads and drove almost to the top. Walked up to the actual top of the mountain, contemplated going after Daydreamer, but thought better of it because we didn't want to trek through the brush. Ate lunch on some cool rocks and continued on our way. " — alexehagen • Apr 11, 2020
"11.29.19....Opal Mtn, Nelson HP. (Not Benchmark) and Arch Back Peak. The Black Friday Peakbagging Honeymoon Jimmy never wanted! 3 Peak Extravaganza in the Eldorado Mtns near Nelson, NV. 3 diff Trailheads, 6 miles and nearly 2,000’ gain. Opal peak was the coldest at nearly 5,000’ above sea level with windchill in the 20’s. We hiked an ran that (Mtn road) 5k distance in :49 min.
Next was Nelson HP (not BM) which had a flowing creek all the way to the summit! 1.6 miles, 700’ gain in 1:10hr.
Last was Arch Back. 1.3 in 33min. It had a giant Arch Bridge on the ridge along the way.
This Mtn Range is extraordinary with spectacular 360 views of the Colorado River and rugged area mountains......and in our own backyard! The wind was vicious and cold. 50mph gusts on the summits tossed us around like rag dolls. I made us Thanksgiving leftover sub Sammies and pumpkin pie for a reward. Thank you my love. You are a great sport!
*We slept in and were done and home by 1pm. @ Nelson, Nevada" — paula.raimondi • Nov 29, 2019
"Drove most of the way up to Opal Benchmark, then traversed the ridge to Daydream Point. Other than the chilly breeze at the beginning of the day, the weather was perfect & the hike was pleasant. Nelson is such a beautiful area!" — Kevin • Mar 24, 2019
"Drove our way from Nelson, NV up to the radio/microwave towers on Opal Benchmark. Parked just below the summit and walked up to the actual USGS benchmarks, which were just above the highest of the tower complexes. Unpleasant buzzing noises and ringing in our ears encouraged us to hurry down and across the ridge and traverse over to Daydream Point. We geocached, Kevin taught me how to zero in on a waypoint on my GPS, and we sat and daydreamed for about 20 minutes - hence the name, Daydream Point. Beautiful views of Highway 95 and the dry lakebeds from up there. We retraced our steps and traversed back to Opal Benchmark and back to the vehicle before continuing on our geocaching adventure. A nice easy hike! :)" — psychikingjes • Mar 24, 2019
