"5 peak loop: Easy start with Peaks 2881 and 2927. Northshore Peak mellow too. Faint trail, lost it at times. Northshore South a little spicier, an exposed move or two on ridge, though maybe could avoid if traversed lower than the ridgeline. Scrambly/sketchy descent to find approach to West Northshore - the ascent from the southeast side was steep but rocky, was fine. Descent back to road on northeast a bit looser / sketchier through gully with soft gypsum soil sides. Would probably look for better descent, though I followed my downloaded GPX fairly closely. Saw a comment in the summit register that someone had come up from the west side and kept the route at class 2. Fun loop! " — tracyt • Feb 5, 2026
"I found a Motorola phone that looked like it had slipped out of someone's pocket. It was laying at the top of the Class 3 saddle that gains the ridge. Judging by the way the screen protector was weathered, I'd say it's been there over a week. Still had a slight charge and looked functional so I brought it back with me in the hopes of returning it to it's rightful owner. Message me on here to link up!" — MikeERodriguez • Feb 3, 2025
"12.8.2020~7 peak Ridge Surfin’ with Kevin. 7 miles, 3,200’ gain. Northshore Peak, Northshore South Peak, Cottonwood Ridge (aka Big Sister Peak), West Northshore Peak, 2,881’, 2927’ and 2,983’. We had sustained views of the Bowl of Fire, Muddy Mtns and the majestic Mtns in the LMNRA. The terrain is rough but this intense workout is well worth the hard effort. Kevin plotted out and guided us on this rad route. I love this area. " — paula.raimondi • Dec 8, 2020
"What a day! My main goal was West Northshore Peak, which I had read awful things about. For some reason, we saved it for last, so we almost bailed on it. I'm very glad we didn't; it wasn't as bad as people made it out to be. The whole hike was enjoyable and kicked my ass. Thanks, Paula!" — Kevin • Dec 8, 2020
"I've probably been up this peak close to 20 times. It's my favorite sunset spot. The views over all the Northshore are awesome. It's cool to see all the peaks I've climbed out there from that one spot. I had a great week visiting with my parents. They left this morning, so I headed out to burn off some of the many calories I consumed this week. All the peaks in Gold Butte had lots of snow, along with the Virgins & Mt. Wilson. Even the Muddies had some up top! I made a couple of watercolors & left a little before sunset. In my opinion, this is one of the easiest Lake Mead Peaks. Gorgeous hike!" — StudioHoodoo • Dec 27, 2019
"Hiking up to the ridge line was the worst part, to be honest. A lot of loose rock and no real trail. Also sucked coming down. Class 3 climb down was a little crazy, but no trouble was had. Hardly anybody visits the place. The last name in the registry was 13 days ago.
A great lesser known hike and there are a BUNCH of fossils along the ridge line. I highly recommend it if you don't mind a little route finding and Class 3 climbs." — alexehagen • Mar 23, 2019
"1000' up in 43 min. 1:27 total. What miserable, craggy, crappy terrain to hike on. Uck! The only thing that made it worthwhile was seeing a desert tortoise on the way down...The views, although they were spectacular, alone wasn't worth it but that combined with the tortoise was well worth it. Never again tho. " — paula.raimondi • May 7, 2016
"Led a group of 7 from the Overweight Hikers Meetup to the summit. A fun, moderate, off-trail route. This was the first time for all of us so it was a bit of an adventure finding the best way up to the ridge. Once on the ridge, very easy travel until we came to a drop off. We simply went south and back onto the ridge and from there a short climb to the summit. Awesome hike with awesome views!" — cardsfanlv • Nov 28, 2014
"Went with 9 others to start a few into the hiking / Peak Hunting world, was an amazing time, found the registry in a glass/clear/ragu type container. Awesome views despite the Rain/Snow at times" — Danton88 • Nov 23, 2013
