Started the hike at Jack's Creek Trailhead (elevation about 8600ft). Took Trail-25 to TR-257 to TR-251, a route that takes you by Pecos Baldy Lake then over Trailriders Wall followed by a drop into the basin below Truchas Lakes. It was a warm day with very little breeze, a total of 12.1 miles to the main Truchas Lake based on my gps. The high point of the trail occurs along Trailriders Wall at about elevation 11950. I camped .2 miles below the lake, at the fork of TR-251 & TR-264 (elevation 11700). Very nice camp setup with a spring to the south of the site and ample room for multiple tents. Due to a bit of heat exhaustion I setup a tent and went to bed. Woke early the next morning to hike North Truchas and Chimayosos. Really struggled to climb both, feeling weak. Got back to camp after about 5 hours at around 1130. A half hour later the first of several thunderstorms rolled in and it was lightning and rain for the rest of the afternoon. Left early the next morning for the return to Jack's Creek.
