"From the visitors center in Chilao, I picked up the nature trail. At a point where the trail passed under the peak, I left the trail and went x-country through the brush. Shortly before reaching the top, I intersected a firebreak. The firebreak was a much easier way to the summit. After taking summit photos, I followed the firebreak all the way back down to the east end of the parking lot, forming a short semi loop hike." — MikeTeeples • May 24, 2020

"At the end of my 1 week vacation, I just had to get one more lick in before the suck starts again at work! I just had to hit the Angeles National Forest too because it is one of my favorite forests and it's been a bit since I been there to hike! I really missed my San Gabriels! I decided on doing a day hike around Chilao since I really love the area. I parked along Angeles Crest near the visitor center at Chilao and pondered which peak(s) to visit. I had done Peak 5698 already, and I wanted some "new" peaks to visit. There are many small summits around Chilao visitor center. I started with a firebreak west of the visitor center and headed to the north and northeast to Newcomb Ranch Peak (5,604'). It was an easy ascent with about 350'-375' gain from the canyon bottom. Newcomb Ranch Peakhas a nice vista in the Chilao area, and there is a neat cairn on top. There was no register. I then went down the same firebreak and found a bench in the camp area to get some water and began pondering my next moves towards the south ridge of the canyon where some more random peaks, Peak 5520 and Peak 5560 lie. I then picked up the Silver Moccasin Trail and headed southwest to a tiny pass..." — brianpowell • Oct 19, 2019
