"I've been meaning to do the Virgin River Rim Trail as a backpack, but life hasn't cooperated. So, it was nice to at least be on part of the trail - a nice, long, basically 11 mile loop hike where we added in Andy Nelson Peak and Navajo Peak. To describe the former, I'll use one word: steep. To describe the latter, I'll use a different word: views. Also, gradual. Andy Nelson Peak was unfortunately pretty steep from the saddle, but had a beautiful expanse of yellow snakeweed and spectacular views of Navajo Lake from (basically) the top. Navajo Peak was a lot more gradual and had the best dang views of the backside of Zion and Strawberry Ridge/the rest of the Virgin River Rim Trail. More fallen logs to navigate to get to the summit of Navajo Peak versus Andy Nelson Peak, which had more scrub/shrubs and was just danged steep. The weather was gorgeous, it was not hard to find a way up either summit, and it was just a great day. And I didn't do too badly for not having seriously hiked, and especially not having hiked at elevation, since Memorial Day!" — psychikingjes • Sep 4, 2021
