"Dayhike of Goat Mountain and the adjacent peaks out of Roads End in Kings Canyon. ~4 hours to Grouse Lake, where I began scrambling almost immediately, eschewing the approach via the saddle with Munger Peak and instead climbing the west face of Peak 11874. From 11874, I set out north along the ridge top to Goat Mountain - a sustained strenuous class 3 scramble. Not particularly technical or exposed, but taxing in the midday heat, especially after already ascending over 6500 ft. I reached the summit 6:30h after leaving the trailhead.
From the summit, I scrambled down Goat Mountain's NW ridge to the saddle with Munger Peak, then up Munger Peak, which was a brushy class 2/3. Having been on rock for over 3 hours, I was ready for some walking, so I made a beeline to Grouse Lake, then caught the use trail leading to Copper Creek. I flew down the trail in less than 3h, making it to Roads End well before sunset. 20 mi, 7800 ft gain, 11:50h." — klotito • Sep 6, 2021

"After attempting neighboring Goat Mountain and being rebuffed by scary terrain, I scrambled up Munger Peak. The ascent was tricky at points, but never dangerous. The south and west sides of the mountain are comprised of large blocks, which made scrambling fun and relatively safe. The approach required a brief bit of cross country travel from the Copper Canyon Trail that begins at Roads End, Kings Canyon National Park. After climbing a few thousand feet from Roads End, I found my way to Grouse Lake and from there uphill to the saddle between Goat Mountain and Munger Peak." — jameslkennedy • Jun 26, 2012
