"8.27.24~Mummy Head to Toe Traverse, solo. 3rd solo lifetime. Mummy Nose, Forehead, Chin, Tummy & Toe. 9 miles, 5,000’ gain (give or take) in 7:31hrs. Wasn’t my fasted nor my slowest. I haven't done this in 4 years. Weather was perfect though some sections were warm. My route finding was good. Some scary sections were not as bad as I remember but other sections I don’t remember being bad seemed scary. Today was my 1st time going up the creepy Zebra striped rock climb when heading from Chin to Tummy. I usually take the narrow dry-fall chasm across from it. Doing this alone is a mind fuck but I kept my composure all day. It was completely exhausting especially the 14 jumping splits outtakes on Mummy Tummy. I drank 3-17oz bottles of water, 24 oz of Gatorade. One PB&J and half a burrito. Great day." — paula.raimondi • Aug 27, 2024
"This is an advanced scramblers route that a lot of people may not enjoy. The route finding, terrain and conditions only allowed us to "average" half a mile an hour. There is a lot of very steep scree that needs to be climbed and traversed throughout the route to the Forehead. From the Forehead and down is pretty straight forward and, if I had to pick a word, "normal" for the Charleston area. The magnificent Bristlecone trees that you get to see on this route make worth the effort. " — Heartattackbruce • Jul 11, 2024
"This route, modified Mummy Head to Toe, has seven registers to sign on it. The one that is not listed is Mummy Vista, just before Forehead. The Nostril route to the Nose is fun, challenging and time consuming. It can add about an hour to the overall time. You will gain nearly 1250 feet in the last 1/2 mile up to the the Nose. A lot of this route is for advanced scramblers only. You will be climbing walls and traversing a knife-edge. There are sections where you will be hundreds of feet up on the knife edge and it will be less than 2 feet wide....and crumbly. Yes, it will give you the adrenaline rush that you may be looking for. Be prepared for a 9-11 hour day to safely cover the 9.25 miles and 4700 feet of elevation gain. Over 50% of the gain is on the 1.5 mile approach to the Nose. This route is highly modified from the "standard" route that is known as Mummy Head to Toe. " — Heartattackbruce • Jul 29, 2023
"Finally felt like the snow has melted enough for the mummy traverse . I was 95% right , coming down mummy you can slide like 2-300 ft down through snow . I can’t imagine that snow is going anywhere anytime soon either , banks were still 6+ ft high I only brought 1L of water and was able to fill it up a couple times there are some real nice water sources along the way. Spooky corner is tame, coming down the forehead was the only real place I needed a couple minutes to figure out what to do , everything else was straightforward enough . More annoying steep sidehilling than I thought after the chin going to the tummy, but overall it was a good route . I rode my bike back to make it a loop. Also I’m no anatomy expert but why is the nose before the forehead ? " — joshortman • Jul 3, 2023
"Mummy Head Loop! We rolled the dice on the weather and came up lucky. Some models were predicting storms to start as early as 12pm. I had some slower folk on this group hike so we had a nice long day with lots of laughter sweat & tears. Amazing sense of accomplishment. " — DudeAlmighty • Jul 28, 2022
"8.12.2020~Mummy traverse CCW, this time faster, with vigor and laser focus. Solo. 9 miles, 5,000’ gain in 6:42hrs total. 2nd time in one week but this time using the harder class 3/4 route. It’s considered by most to be the hardest route in the Spring Mtns. It’s relentless climbing and scrambling at 11,000’ and extremely taxing with intense navigation. Some parts are terrifying so that drains me especially since I’m doing it alone and unroped. Most go in groups and with guides who prep ropes/belays, encourage one another along the way and follow the leader without having to route find. That’s a good and safe way but I feel more accomplished doing it on my own. ‘Twas hotter with no wind. I drank 2 liters of water and only consumed one Luna bar, one bottle of Gatorade and one veggie burrito. I felt strong all day. I’m more proud of today than my 100 Charleston summits. Closing this chapter and moving on to the next epic projects. Weeeeeee!!!! https://youtu.be/TxbbD0OPRDg

"8.10.2020. Mummy’s Forehead via class 3/4 cliffs, unroped and solo! 5.5 miles RT, 3,900’ gain. Took 3 hrs in one spot just to build up the nerve to take this route alone and unroped. I had to practice and memorize the holds, go back and forth a gazillion times plotting placement of feet and hands, lots of sitting and staring and agonizing whether to even risk it on this class 3/4 baby pine/Creepy blind corner, Masters route from the Nose/Forehead saddle. Super proud as I was about to leave sad and defeated with my tail between my legs. I looped around on the descent, taking the class 2 route back to the same saddle. That sucked bad. On the way up to the saddle, when I was climbing in the gully, a large boulder broke free when I stepped on it and slammed me into a log and almost pinned me. Hurt my left index finger too. Eeek. Close call.....
One step closer to being a Mountaineer Master. I saw two white unicorns on the road on the drive out. Neat🦄

"Mummy 5 Peak traverse Head to Toe, SOLO, Nose, Forehead, Chin, Tummy and Toe. 9 miles, 6,000’ gain, 8:11 hrs of Scampering, Scrambling and Climbing class 2-4 rock. Sure it’s safer, more comforting, more enjoyable with a friend, a club, a group, a spouse.....I don’t want it that way. I don’t want the comfort of another human to sooth my fears or assist me when I conquer big mountains and fill my day with lovely conversation. I want to be independent and self reliant. I want my own dark thoughts that battle my will, courage and drive to keep going forward. That’s what gives me satisfaction. Not sure many women (or people) have done this alone but I know I’m one of the very select few women that have. That gives me great pride. I only consumed one piece of crumb cake, a slice of pizza, bottle of Gatorade and 2.5 liters of water.

"Another test to see if peakery can read "old" files now. Solo. This was right before I was set to go in for surgery, and I couldn't run without pain, so had to be gentle going downhill. Ac ross a 4th class shortcut on the way up Nose, and across the knife edge between forehead and chin. I got incredibly sick from the surgery, and wasn't back up this way for a long time." — hwstock • Aug 3, 2019
"We did the Mummy Head to Toe hike, which is a traverse over Mummy's Nose, Mummy's Forehead, Mummy's Chin, Mummy Mountain (Mummy's Tummy) and Mummy's Toe. There were a couple of short class 4 sections and some exposure during a traverse from the Forehead to Chin, but everyone did well. This was my first time trying the full traverse - I had been to each of these summits multiple times, but not all in the same day. When all was said & done, we did around 13 miles with about 5200 feet of gain, according to my Garmin GPSr. This would have been more fun if there wasn't so much damn smoke in the air!" — Kevin • Aug 11, 2018
