"I tried to do this last week, but the canyon was so full of water that it really slowed things down so I decided to just enjoy the frogs and waterfalls and try again later.
Today went much better. There was still a lot of water (which was good since it was a hot day), but not anywhere that blocked progress. The route to the hidden bowl was not as difficult as advertised, and there was a gully with some cairns that led me straight to the south summit. I was surprised when I got there to find that there are actually two south summit blocks, so I did both since I was already up there.
I originally had planned to just head back down the same way, but on the way up I decided I wanted to go back down the normal first creek route. Once I was going that way, it wasn't too far to go up to the main summit on the way. I briefly considered going down cleaver crack but it's been a while so I wasn't sure of routefinding and I thought there might be some snow.
Fun day overall. Other than the normal first creek crowd on the way out, I didn't see anyone except those awful stunt planes that buzz the canyons." — kbrack • Mar 24, 2025
"8 miles, 3 peaks. The class 4 route going up the east chute of Mt. Wilson, scramble up to white pinnacle and then continue onto the South & North peak and descend first creek.
I found that this route was easier than Cleaver Crack, though not by much. (All handlines are in place)" — MikeERodriguez • Aug 21, 2024
"Back for revenge . Got everything with ease today. Feel silly for turning around the other day, DHP wasn’t bad at all. Everything on Wilson is well ducked and the traverse from WPP to Wilson is one of the best routes in red rock. WPP & DHP are optional, so even if you don’t want to do exposed climbing , you can still do this . Crux would be the second handline up white rock gully . Otherwise it’s the summit block at DHP.
Now as awesome as the Wilson traverse was that is about how AWFUL the other peaks were . Pretty much as soon as you branch off for first creek , it is just a loose nightmare really all the way to indecision peak , with the worst in between first creek and decision. I hated it . Took me way longer to go from first creek to indecision than it did to do the Wilson traverse .
Phone died at end so add another mile for car to car distance" — joshortman • Jun 1, 2023
"Big loop that included White Pinnacle, Dead Horse, South Wilson, Wilson, First Creek Peak, Decision, "No Decision", and Indecision Peaks. With Bob. We had no beta on how Dead Horse could connect to South Wilson and so were pleased to find a well ducked route to the top." — tombecht • Mar 25, 2016
"White Rock Gully up to White Rock Pinnacle, traversed over to Dead Horse Point, over to hidden bowl, up the right approach to Wilson South then over to Wilson, and finally back down via the standard route.
Easily the toughest hike I've done in the LV area.
RT: >8hrs, ~5000 cumulative elevation gain, ~10.5 miles" — jasonj • Oct 11, 2015
"Led a group of hikers up to White Pinnacle, Dead horse Point & Mount Wilson South Summit. It was a fun day with lots of scrambling & climbing. We got off course a couple times, following cairns & ended up taking tougher routes than planned." — Kevin • Nov 30, 2013
"Went via Whote Pinnacle Gully. Was gonna go to Mt. Wilson, but short days and snow kept us to here. We found half of the Direct route on the way up, and the other half on the way down. Led by Kevin Humes." — acekelly • Nov 30, 2013
