"My original plan was to hike Mount Irvine, but wasn't able to reach the trailhead due to road access issues. Not wanting to do an even longer road hike than I did before, I decided to hike the Mount Tuscarora Firetower trail instead.
Invigorated by the crisp wintertime air, I hiked at a brisker pace than I did last May when it was hot and humid outside. The ascent up the mountain didn't seem as bad today, but the hike along the ridge seemed longer than before. Maybe it's because I was in a greater hurry due to being with two other hikers who turned around halfway up the mountain. I didn't want to keep them waiting for too long, so I walked as fast as the trail conditions would allow me to and kept my time at the decrepit firetower to a minimum. " — theascent • Jan 5, 2019

"Tried to make it to an overlook of the Alleghany Reservoir shown on the map, but all views were completely obscurred by trees. Most of the party turned back once they realized there were no overlooks but I pushed forward with my dad to the summit fire tower, long abandoned. The trail east of the fire tower was completely unmaintained, and we had to scramble over at least 50 massive logs in the last 2.5 miles after the summit. Spotted a raccoon on the way out but not much else. " — Christopher • Jun 9, 2012
