"Long climb. Took about five and a half hours. The half mile to the peak is quite bouldery and trekking piles should be stowed. It is quite easy to go off trail, so stay close to the ridge." — Ecaello • Jul 29, 2023

"Pumped and grateful to have the opportunity to finally reach the summit of Monte Cristo. This was the third time I've been on the Mt. Superior ridge. During the previous two attempts I'd always look over at Monte Cristo and think it was unattainable. I have to keep telling myself I can do hard things!

Elevation: 11,132 ft
Trailhead: Shallow Shaft Restaurant
Route: Cardiff Pass Trail and summited via the east ridge.
Distance to Summit: Approximately 2.75 miles
Time to Summit: Approximately 2.75 hrs
Total Time: 4.75 hrs
Details: The trail starts out easy but turns into a very difficult scramble after reaching Cardiff Pass. In August 2020 there are well worn paths but I still ended up route finding at times. Most of the time I just stayed on the ridge to avoid elevation loss. The ridge between Mt. Superior and Monte Cristo is shorter than it looks and definitely easier than the climb to Mt. Superior.

"Lovely summer day. Took off from Alta around 3:30. Summited over two hours later. Had a hard time keeping on the trail at times and ended up scrambling straight up the ridge at the end. It was fun." — chilledsausage • Aug 10, 2015
