"Sunset summit. We were gonna hunker down inside the radio shack for a few hours then do Reads tower for sunrise but some genius left the door open and it's FULL of snow and the door won't shut. Frig. So we hiked back down to the car arriving at 1am. Success regardless! What a nice night. " — jakefinnan • Jun 19, 2021
"Sparrowhawk for sunset. Planned to hunker down for a few hours at the col in the weather shack to go up Read's in the early morning for sunrise, but sadly someone left the door to the shack open and it was mashed in concrete snow! So, we up to the summit we went and then we turned our asses around to get back to the car at 1 AM and got home around 3 AM. Always an adventure, happy to have avoided the poopy weather that's forecasted for this weekend." — hollywilliams • Jun 19, 2021
"Got caught in a snowstorm (in August!) above 2750m. Summit was freezing, but we managed to make it. The descent was nearly a whiteout so we used a compass to find the route. Ascended Read's Tower afterwards and got some blue skies towards the end of the trip. 8 hour round trip. " — nathanwatt • Aug 8, 2020
"Camped out overnight by the tarns, attempted to hit the south east ridge and continue upwards from there. Was still in full pack and hit an impassable gully, was forced down to treeline and called it there." — James-M • Jun 3, 2018
"Ski ascent of Sparrowhawk with heavy winds. Fast skin up through the treeline on melt-freeze crust with too many kick turns to count. Took main gully beneath Reid's Tower - more kick turns. Once on the upper slopes went more or less straight to the col and bootpacked from the TV repeater station. Brutal winds and spindrift for the last 50m, got soaked and had to use almost every warm layer. Ski down was marginal, sastrugi and boilerplate crust." — BobbyG • Apr 14, 2017
"Went with my buddy Andrew. Took 8 ish hours with 2 hours of breaks. looks like a menacing summit when it first appears but once you make it right near the top and wrap around the summit block it becomes apparent that while there is some exposure it is for the most part a rather easy scramble to the summit. Beatfuil weather could see everything for miles. " — TBird • Aug 19, 2016
"Was planning on climbing Mt Kidd South but parking lot was closed for wildlife restoration...hmmm with 1 bar on the phone, I pulled up Mt Nestor and decided to drive around. Then I remembered it was probably a long 13km bike each way and I didn't have a bike. So Sparrowhawk was a go. Passed a couple on the way up and then a group of 14. Post-holed in existing track until near the top where I traversed right to the south and pumped up the snowy scree and kicked steps to the top in the misty clouds. 4.5hrs 9km." — alexjoseph • May 14, 2016
"Reached summit at 1130, post holed through the large snow field on the way down. I would recommend maybe an alpine start, if attempting this early in the season. The snow crust was still frozen on the way up." — alexander-milne • May 22, 2015
