Was in the Army at the time and became an assistant instructor at the army’s northern warfare school at black rapids Alaska. Climbed this Mt. Twice in the 2 months or so was there.

1st time was almost killed twice. Once a rock the size of a small car almost landed on me. Actually took my pack with it down the mountain. I remember watching it roll down and stuff spilling out and thinking, “crap, now I need to go back down and get it”. The second was almost at the summit and are “guide” was cutting the trail, Did not know this was a bad idea since I was still learning.

As expected, it let go and created avalanche, which I had the pleasure of riding in. It’s actually very quite, though I do remember hearing one of the guys screaming as we went down. He denies it but everyone heard ;-)

Don’t know why but got deposited about 10 feet (not kidding) from the edge of the cliff face. I remember digging out and starting to run and was not getting anywhere. I looked back and my rope was buried. Kinda brought me back to reality. Then the shakes set in. Remember trying to light a cigarette and could not keep my hands still so my buddy did it for me. Took about an hour or so to go away. After we finished the climb and headed back down.

Over all I loved it ;-)
