"The first km or so is along the access road to the fire lookout. Eventually I hung a sharp left to begin ascending via the Roberta Route trail, bushwhacking for about 30 minutes. There was the occasional yellow ribbon to help when the trail disappeared. I’m sure the trail was still there, the bush is just thick in some sections.
Above tree line, things were straight forward to the summit. A few loose sections and some scrambling to avoid it. The views were better than I expected, so that was a treat. I headed over to GR 379101 because I wanted to scope out a possible traverse to the summit of Mt. Pocaterra. Looks possible… I’ll explore further in the future.
Following other trip reports I’ve read, I descended the drainage directly below GR 379101. It was fine until things got a little thicker below treeline. Sidehilling on loose dirt and through bush was hell… but luckily short lived. Once I was back on the fire lookout trail, it was smooth sailing back to the car. I’m definitely interested in scoping out that traverse. Will have to research more to see who’s done it. " — ivo • Aug 14, 2022
"After going out and attempting the alternate route up the drainage and not making it all the way with Slow and Steady, Greg and I decided to give it a go. The beautiful fluffy snow that was there a couple of days before was replaced with wet snow that compacted easily and the sky threatened to drizzle. We took a GPS with Bob Spirko's track on it, but didn't need it, as many people seemed to have been on that mountain in the past few days. We followed the obvious trail up from the logging road and trudged up the steep shoulder. Along the way there was small hints left by others, yellow, pink, and orange flagging in spots. It was a really pleasurable hike, and we had some gorgeous but dramatic views from the summit with the dark clouds and light drizzle. We even saw a rainbow while at the summit. The trip back to the car was quick. A great outing!" — cat • Nov 4, 2021
"8km with 700m gain in 2:45hrs.
Before (or after) work scramble. Easy to moderate bushwhacking during the descent, a decent trail on the way up.
Supposed to be clear skies and sunny but was quite cloudy." — alexp • Jul 23, 2020
"This was a short little jaunt - a bit under four hours round-trip even with snow. I went all the way up and down without any traction, but microspikes would help. I wore mountaineering boots and brought crampons expecting more snow, but there wasn't too much at the top. The deepest snow was on some of the likely grassier spots closer to the col. Incredible views and highly worth it!" — leigh-annewebster • Nov 24, 2018
"A quick trek up Mt Roberta. Couldn't ask for a better day. Light bushwhacking. Conditions were really good. There was snow the entire way up and I used microspikes but did not need gaitors." — BertB • Nov 24, 2018
"I've been trying to get up here for the last month or so, figured this could be my last chance before the road closes. Only had snow half the time and it was never to much. Once off the main trail I followed some tracks for the first five or ten minutes. I then left them behind making my way to the right and up and to the right and up. Fresh snow made things icy. A little mix up on descent near bottom should of checked the GPS sooner instead of following other tracks. No big problems just some benches, dip down then climb up again. Hope to get up again sometime in the summer. " — Randy • Nov 5, 2018
"Went up Mt Roberta, traversed to GR379101, and decided to make a loop out of it by descending the gully south of GR379101.
This descent goes through an avalanche path. Even though there was snow, a slide was unlikely." — apfelstrudel • Oct 20, 2018
"Snowshoe trip - loose unsupportive snow on the ascent made for a rough go - but excellent descent. Avalanche risk basically zero currently. An awesome snowshoe peak with great views. No technical difficulty other than route finding. An easy "scramble". Bushwacking. " — jakefinnan • Nov 11, 2017
