Great day for a hike for four great friends. The weather was clear and cool, with bright sun and a gentle breeze. Who could ask for anything more. We parked at the parking lot at the gate (as the road up to Mt. Battie wasn't open). We paid our $2 each park entry fee and we were off like a heard of turtles. We started out on the Nature trail, up to the Ocean Lookout. Then we took the Tablelands Trail to the tree top summit. From they we went down the Slope Trail. No one had been down the Slope trail and we had to break trail the whole way to the ski shelter. Luckily the snow was only about four inches deep. The trail was marked but it was sometimes difficult to see the blazes. There was one large tree down across the trail that we had to go under. The ski shelter/warming hut was colder inside than it was outside. From the ski shelter we followed the ski shelter trail back to the parking area. All together this was a six mile hike. The snow was a bit sticky on the way up to the summit but on the Slope Trail the snow was colder and sheltered from the sun. Happy trails
