"I attempted the loop for Megunticook, Adam's Lookout to Maiden Cliff. Thick sheets of ice covered the trail requiring my spikes. The hike took longer than expected so I cut the hike short, and omitted Maiden's Cliff and the summit of Mt. Battie. " — CAnn • Mar 18, 2022

"Great day for a hike for four great friends. The weather was clear and cool, with bright sun and a gentle breeze. Who could ask for anything more. We parked at the parking lot at the gate (as the road up to Mt. Battie wasn't open). We paid our $2 each park entry fee and we were off like a heard of turtles. We started out on the Nature trail, up to the Ocean Lookout. Then we took the Tablelands Trail to the tree top summit. From they we went down the Slope Trail. No one had been down the Slope trail and we had to break trail the whole way to the ski shelter. Luckily the snow was only about four inches deep. The trail was marked but it was sometimes difficult to see the blazes. There was one large tree down across the trail that we had to go under. The ski shelter/warming hut was colder inside than it was outside. From the ski shelter we followed the ski shelter trail back to the parking area. All together this was a six mile hike. The snow was a bit sticky on the way up to the summit but on the Slope Trail the snow was colder and sheltered from the sun. Happy trails" — bwright • Nov 24, 2018

"Ran into some snow on trail in the valley between Battie and Megunticook, but it wasn't too bad. Got to the Ocean Outlook without much trouble. Weather was perfect. Continued on to the the actual summit without our packs. The trail from the outlook to the summit was completely snow. I would dare say as much as 6 inches in spots. The trail was packed down though, so it wasn't much of a problem. Practically ran back to the the outlook, slipping and sliding all the way. My dog loved it." — mikewilliamsjr • Apr 9, 2017

"Even know everyone wanted to stop hiking on the top of Mount Battie, we continue on our way to Mount Megunticook. My roommate Ryan convinced me to take a longer route up the mountain. Not letting anyone know we trucked on. After about 1 mile and some steep terrain. we made it to the Ocean lookout. There was a great view of Camden from the top. We all rested and drank some beers on the lookout. No body wanted to continue the half mile to the summit, so i went off on my own to hit the summit. I did the half mile and back in less then 10 mins. Not bad right? We all got packed up and started for the long trek back to our car. We got kinda separated so the four of us waited on top of Mount Battie for the rest of our party. After about 20 mins i got kind worried but figured they must of some how past us and i missed them. When i made it to the cars the rest of my friends were waiting for us. Turns out they hitched hike back to the cars as soon as they made it to the road on Mount Battie. Dirty little trick the pulled but was glad to see everyone wasn't lost on the mountain." — elbesto • May 27, 2012

"Keith Holland and I scampered up the Maiden Cliff trail a number of times in spring 2010. It offers striking views from sheer cliffs overlooking Megunticook Lake. The steel cross marks where 11 yr old Elenora French fell to her death in 1862." — emeraldverbena • May 18, 2010
