"Had a short time window to go for a doubleheader... first Hood Mountain then Bald Mountain, both featured in the SF Bay Area Classic Peaks challenge.
Started out at 11:30 on the Goodspeed Trail on the edge of Sugarloaf Ridge State Park. Easy, steady climb up to the park boundary. Things get a bit steeper on the Nattkemper Trail as it crosscuts and switchbacks its way through meadows and oak woodlands. The final climb to the summit of Hood is moderate and before you know it... you're on the broad, viewless summit. Bummer. But wait... there's a fairly obvious secret up here: look for a tiny spur to the south and find a short rock pinnacle that affords a view for one.
