"Considered turning around before SM peak. Waist deep snow in some places, wind gusts and near zero visibility. We pushed ourselves to make the summit. Things started to clear and we were rewarded with views on our way down." — Randy • Oct 24, 2019
"A new trail to Lake of the Falls built in summer 2019 eliminates any bushwhacking and turns Mt. Hensley into an easily accessible (but fairly long) destination. The climbs 1250m all way to the summit of "S.M. Peak". Steep 150m descent to the col (Class II terrain) is followed by a walk-up to the summit of Mt. Hensley at 2880m.
It is possible to bypass S.M. Peak by traversing along its SE face directly to the col. This route turns Mt. Hensley into a hike (Class I terrain).
The trail is right now (October 20, 2019) in the summer condition until approximately 1700m. The snow becomes an issue at around 2000m near the treeline. The alpine looks very wintery. The snow ranges there from boot-top to knee deep. The snow added more challenge and slowed us down considerably." — Taras • Oct 20, 2019
