"I joined Matthew and Sandra for a gorgeous trek up Haffner. It was freezing cold to start at -30, but it eventually warmed up to about -12 and -6 before dropping back down to -23 when we got back. I had attempted this back in May 2019 with Jeff but we turned around at the alpine meadow when we encountered whumpfing. We had been so close, but we opted to be safe. This time avi hazard was low-low-low and it made me feel much more optimistic. The steep section gassed us all going up the final stretch, but views were all worth the haul. We made a really good time - something like 6:15 including lunch and breaks, so we set a decent pace. Glad to see all the surrounding peaks I did in 2020 (Beatrice, Ball, Isabelle) plus others from previous years like Stanley, Vermillion and Whymper. There were lots of skiers out as well." — leigh-annewebster • Jan 23, 2021
"I dragged Jeff out to Kootenay NP to attempt Haffner. There was a bit of wishful thinking and a huge amount of physical effort involved in bushwhacking and snowshoeing, but ultimately once we ran into whumpfing and a weak crust in the meadow below the summit push we backed off. Will go back in larch season for this one, I think. Lots of avalanches throughout the day on the slopes, so it's good to play it safe." — leigh-annewebster • May 10, 2019
