"Via the SW Rigde a.k.a the "Yellow Brick Road" from Glacier Notch. A fun and easy class 3 climb with little exposure. Sitting just off the Palisade Crest, Mt. Gayley has one of the finest summit views I've encountered in the Sierra. The North Face of Mt. Sill looms just a half mile away and the up-close views of the rest of the Palisades extend from Middle Palisade in the south to Mount Agassiz in the north.
I approached Glacier Notch from the South Fork of Big Pine Creek. I found the cross-country route above Willow Lake to be convoluted and difficult, involving tedious scrambling, stream crossings, and bushwhacking. Though not obvious from below, there is a class 3 route up the east side of Glacier Notch that kind of materialized as you climb." — klotito • Jul 4, 2021
"Race between us and the weather. Unfortunately, I picked a chute that wasn't Glacier Notch and added unneeded excitement. Patrick wisely turned back at this point. https://www.flickr.com/photos/becht/albums/72157674074897135" — tombecht • Sep 11, 2016
