"This is a fun scramble so I had not trouble going with Leigh-Anne to get this objective done. It was smoky in the morning and at times I could taste the smoke on my tongue. Thankfully, as we got further along the smoke lessened." — BertB • Jul 24, 2021
"Bert kindly accompanied me on this one. He said it was a great scramble, so he didn't mind repeating it so much. It has a bit of everything - a good approach trail, some steep grinding uphill to the ridge, some ridgewalking, routefinding, a little hands on and a tiny bit of sketch in a few spots. Views were decent despite the smoke even. On the way back we saw a herd of about 15 mountain goats trying to negotiate crossing the TC near Sherbrooke Lake parking. "After a month away out East with very little leg movement and low elevation...it was time to get back at it in the Rockies. Mt Carnarvon was the most westerly Kane left so it was time. Dropped in to the Visitors Centre to grab a Mt Stephen pass and then up Emerald Lake and off by 9am. Legs felt great. Fog and intermittent sun trying to peak through made for interesting route finding at the lake. But a brief view of the ridge got me on track. Hit residual snow cornices at 2500m and fresh snow at 2600m. Working the ridge I was using all four appendages and looking down when I looked up and a rock was right in my peripheral vision that I couldn't see because of my hood sliced just below my right eye. Ouch. A minute or two later I realized I was bleeding (no first aid kit). I used the selfie phone feature to see how bad it was. Hard to tell but looked like bleeding had stopped. Residual snow and ice in the gullies made me put on pants but was able to avoid crampons by climbing up the right edge. Cairns from here on up saved me as full on new snow made it difficult to see any tracks. Going way left on some interesting ledges and then up the final scree slope past a couple false summits...." — alexjoseph • Aug 17, 2019
"Got an early start. This time it was a blue bird day and I could easily see that the summit should be good to go from Hamilton Lake. Descpite 1750m of elevation gain, the first 800m come on an easy trail followed by another 450m gaining a ridge and moving easily on the ridge. Only the last 500m present challenge and that is on good rock. I crossed two very short sections of snow/ice and scrambled up the scree gully, and made it to the summit. I did the usual summit rituals (pictures, register, eat lunch, etc). I then waited for the big guns to arrive. At one time the weather looked like it might turn. I was getting itchy to head back down after an hour, but at time Bobby and Blake appeared on the ridge (I knew they were coming up). It was a lot of fun on the summit and back down. I'll add pictures tomorrow." — BertB • Jul 28, 2018
