"Originally, I had this date slotted for attempting White Mountain Peak a little further north. However, I opted to do a much easier hike on the day. As it turned out, I had quite an adventurous outing that may have been on par with a visit to White Mountain Peak. My goal for the day was Morris Peak, which is located right off the Pacific Crest Trail accessible from Walker Pass. I also wanted to hit a few of the lower peaks to round out the day. My usual plan of attack is to climb the farthest peak first and work my way back to the easier lower peaks later. I started out good by hiking about 4 miles on the PCT to where I reached what I though was the saddle for Morris Peak. The grand peak in front of me resembled the photos I saw of it, so I left the trail and headed up. Surprisingly, there was not much of a use trail. There was a lot of x-country and boulder scrambling, where there were about 3-4 false summits. By the time I reached the summit, I was worn out. I found the register, but much to my surprise when I looked inside, the register listed the peak as Peak 6890. From the summit, I could see a taller peak just to the north, that looked like this peaks slightly tal..." — MikeTeeples • Jul 30, 2021
"Morris/Jenkins doubleheader via the PCT from Walker Pass. Saw a rattlesnake shortly into the hike; thankfully the only one. The route up Jenkins is pretty far from the trailhead, but the PCT in this section is a joy to hike. Really nicely built trail the whole way. Got to scope out the Russell -> Backus ridge traverse for the next day too." — edg • May 4, 2019

"The very next day after the crazy cross-country madness of hiking the northeast slope up to Scodie Mountain, I had the original plan of doing the same up Pinyon Peak, also in the Scodies. However, the Scodie hike was much more difficult than I imagined it would be, so I decided to look across Walker Pass at a trail-all-the-way gig, and I knew Morris Peak would fit the bill. It did. Instead of starting right at Hwy 178 at the pass, where at the time, I didn't see the good parking area off the side of 178, I started from Walker Pass Campground a little farther n.w. I climbed up the PCT, crossed 178 at Walker Pass, and took the route up and up. It was like a walk-in-the-park feeling compared to the X-C up Scodie! It was a much longer distance, but it was 20X easier than scrambling up scree and loose granite dirt! I reached the saddle between Morris and 6980. There was a fire ring at the saddle, and a faint use path that seemed to peter out quickly in the pinyon pines. I started along it, and when it seemed to disappear, I felt the deja-vu of yesterday! I thought: "o.k., here we go again like yesterday with the loose X-C," but after I went uphill 40' I saw the use path again ..." — brianpowell • Apr 5, 2019

"I hiked Morris Peak, Mt. Jenkins, and Owens Peak on Day 1 of a 3-day backpacking trip along the PCT in the Owens Peak Wilderness. I started with 3 liters, but by the time I climbed all 3 peaks and made it to the next water source I was pretty dehydrated. It was warmer than I expected, making this a pretty hard day. Camped in upper Cow Canyon near a small seasonal stream." — klotito • May 27, 2017
