"Main purpose was to redline Nat Thompson Tr. Took a roundabout way up using the scarcely used Fred Harris and General's Trails. Plenty of mud pits on them! The A.T. up was in good shape, not very eroded yet this early in the Thru Hiker season (I met one who started in Jan!). I considered going on to get a closer look at the East Peak but didn't have quite enough time for that. So, after tagging the actual summit cairns and a break, I descended via Nat Thompson, a nice pine needle covered trail to the DOC cabin. An added bonus was a trip to the 3 Mile Rd outlook nearby." — SteveM_StickMan • May 26, 2025
"Got a late afternoon start but it was just a 3 1/2 mile round trip, which included a trip up to the TV/Cell tower site. The DOC has changed the summit sign so that the wrong elevation is not on it anymore. Encountered only 2 other people on the A.T. section. Took the Orange Diamond Ridge and Picnic Trails back to avoid the snow field I trudged through on the way up." — SteveM_StickMan • Apr 7, 2020
"At the summit, we viewed the remains of the crash site. The side of the mountain looks like it might have been bulldozed to cover the remains of the aircraft. It's hard to ignore the feeling of tragedy." — dennytron • Apr 4, 2012
"Frank and I met a couple from Southern VA joining them on section AT hike from Three Mile Rd. to Coop Rd., Dartmouth.
Frank had knee problems and I had blister problems from hiking pole, slowing us enough that we decided not to join them again, wishing them well in their quest to find companions for AT." — barbaratraver • Apr 28, 2004
