The plan was to summit Corno Grande but locals' talk of the wind being too strong gave my companion cold feet. The wind was strong, but I didn't feel it was too bad. I wonder how the naysayers would fare on a winter walk on the South Downs. Anyway, erring on the side of caution we walked up Monte Aquila instead, the obvious route from Campo Imperatore. Fine views. Plans to take in a few of the other lower lying peaks were subverted by partner's bout of vertigo. Will return. Too spectacular not to. Disappointing but...
