"18th October 2017. An ascent of Moel Fechan 372m/73m on Mynydd Hireathog (Denbigh Moors), Denbighshire, North Wales. 8.4km, with 300m of ascent. 2hrs 0mins.
A combined nordic hike and hill-bag of one of my target 300m tops on Mynydd Hiraethog. I parked in the quiet village of Nantglyn, by St James' Church. I worked my way round by quiet country lanes, still partially blocked by fallen branches after Storm Ophelia, on the north flank of the hill. Then I headed south on a little-used right-of-way with broken stiles to a point only several hundred metres away from the summit.
After an easy hop over a low barbed wire fence, a steep climb put me on the summit plateau - a sheep pasture with a large cairn on the highest point. A cold south-east wind bringing in thicker cloud gave a hint of the winter to come. The views were misty, but the great peaks of Snowdonia could be discerned to the west.
Descending back to the path I tried to continue south to the B 5435, but failed to find the route down to the farm. I turned back north to the lane, following it to its junction with the B 5435. A walk of some 3km south-east down this road brought me back again to Nantglyn." — marktrengove2 • Oct 18, 2017
