Winter ascent of Merchant, in T-shirt and shorts. Nice warm January day. Snow started at about 5000 ft. Crazy for this time of year. We made our way to the East summit, which is labeled Merchant Peak on the map. Much to our surprise, it's not the highest point. The peak North-West of the East summit, marked with elevation 6113 is clearly the true summit. As it was getting late, we quickly dashed to the real summit, took a few photos, and headed down. Excellent weather, great day. Hard to believe it was January.
