"Across from Highway 330 from Harrison Mountain (which I climbed last week), stands McKinley Mountain. The old established roadside starting point is too hard to get to, since there is no nearby parking along the highway. Instead, I took a new route. At a point south of McKinley Mountain, there is a wide paved pullout. I parked on the inside edge of the pullout to not block any cars from using it. A use trail cuts through the brush and then climbs steeply to a ridge. The first quarter mile of the hike was the toughest part, since it climbs straight up the slope. In that quarter mile, it reaches a ridge route, which continues to climb toward the peak. The route has a few false summits before reaching a metal sign with a triangular head on the summit in 1.75 miles. No shade on the route, but it was nice to be there at a rare time of the year where the grassy slopes were turning green. I returned along the same route, which was much quicker on the way down. LPC summit #65/86." — MikeTeeples • Feb 28, 2021
