"Winter like conditions, 20-30 cm of snow average , bit less on the ridge. S ridge , normal route for mcgillivray, Ma butte more interesting. Descended east slopes (drainage) from Mcgillivray towards highway then walked back along the road. Cold day." — Pawel G • Oct 28, 2023
"Needed to find a plan. After some back and forth we decided on getting this one done. It was a good outing. The weather couldn't make up its mind and there were clouds lingering around all day. Got a tiny bit of precipitation and one low rumble of thunder. This was when we were well on our way back. One would not want to be on that ridge on a full on thunderstorm." — BertB • Jun 9, 2019
"Drove down to the Crowsnest with Bert bright and early Sunday and opted for two smaller peaks with the recent snow. Lots on the bigger mountains still and it was quite slippery even down low. We were out for about 5.5 - 5.75 hours and it wasn't great weather, but not terrible. McGillivray was slippery with all the licheny slab and the last little bit of Ma Butte was steep and slippery with the snow, but we got it done. Didn't enjoy regaining the elevation on the way back to MGR lol. Weather held for the most part, only got showered with a little bit of snow on Ma Butte." — leigh-annewebster • Jun 9, 2019
"Much more enjoyable doing this in the summer time when starting from the hydroline trail head is possible. A mere 19 metre elevation difference between true and false summits made the ankle turning traverse slightly less interesting but it was nice to take care of some unfinished business. Gorgeous green 360 views in spite of storm clouds. The only blast of cold air this time came from high winds gusting up through the centre valley." — Mountainman • Jun 28, 2014
"Very long winter hike starting with 6.9 km from parking at the end of Highway 40, then up the 740 Trunk Road to trailhead. This was followed by another haul up the hydro line trail to the summit and then a return trip via the service road to Coleman making for a total R.T. distance of 26+ km by the time we reached our vehicle at 9:30 Saturday night. Amazing sunset Saturday night with some gorgeous lenticular clouds during the day and early evening. Winds reached upwards of 80 km/hr during the day at one point making for a bitter cold walk but by evening had completely died down making for a comfortable return trip." — Mountainman • Feb 2, 2013
