A friend and I hiked the Barnhardt trail about 4.6 miles to a drainage, then took that up. We could have gone a little further on the trail to a larger drainage, but our route wasn't too bad. The vegetation wasn't as bad as it is made out to be, but perhaps we just took a better route. We spent about an hour on the summit while my buddy activated the peak by making several radio contacts locally and nationally. We took the larger, main drainage down, but had to skirt a larger pour off. Had we gone this way up, it may have taken us just as long to get around it anyway. The views from the summit and along the hike were great.
