"An out and back from home visiting three peaks off the TRT then finishing with Monkey Rock to complete 12 months of the Monkey. On Marlette there is an ammo box canister with a fresh notebook inside initially signed by a TRT trail crew in earlier September. Easy climb up to South Herlan followed by a x-c stroll over to Herlan to complete the main peaks. All downhill to the Monkey then back home for a nice 18 mile saunter." — Nimblefoot • Sep 15, 2026
"I wanted to get a new peak without using the car so Marlette became the goal. On my way up Tunnel Creek road, as I neared the junction with the Marlette Flume trail, I noticed a new wood structure with a green roof. It turned out to be a new toilet that looked complete on the outside but it wasn’t open for use as access was blocked and the door locked. A nice asset for the ever popular Flume trail and various races/events.
On my way along the TRT I encountered more trail runners, backpackers and section hikers than I have in the past couple of months. Trying to keep the trail runners in sight got me up the switchbacks above Twin Lakes quicker than usual. Once I got Marlette Lake in sight I noticed how green the water was compared to the blue of Tahoe which could also see, quite a contrast. After a short climb off trail I found a rock cairn and fire ring of sorts on the open summit. I didn’t find any kind of canister but I was interested in the views.
On my way back I couldn’t help but add another peak since it was right there. So up the trail to Christopher’s loop then a little off trail to visit Herlan to make it a twofer day." — Nimblefoot • Jul 1, 2026
