Hot day in the Santa Ana's. After a long drive through some remote regions, I found a nice shaded section of road that had a parking turn out and was about a mile from the true starting point of the hike. I parked there and made it my hiking starting point. Meanwhile, I walked the rest of the mostly flat 1 mile on the dirt road to the gate where the official hike starts. I brought a copy of the LPC hiking directions, which I found myself checking often. Some of the trail was a bit overgrown, but still manageable. The summit views overlook the northern boundary of Camp Pendleton. A quick return was more than enough hiking for a hot afternoon. LPC #68/86.
