"OK, I didn't get all the way to the Lundin peak (elev. 6057), but an impassible knob slightly to the east (elev. 5880) via Commonwealth Trail (I'll go do the peak in the summer). From Red Pond up to Red Pass snow was a foot deep; going up to Lundin, a little more. This was the first snow of the year; last week I went up Snoqualmie and it was all clear. There was an intrepid young woman I met on her way down, who said she went up Lundin. I was happy to follow in her footsteps up the ridge. She had gaiters, snow pants and microspikes, all of which I lacked, but with good boots and wool socks, I was fine. Some sun, but you could see the mountains (esp Guy Peak) generating their own weather. To the north, in the middle fork watershed, the fog was very thick, almost black. On Lundin it got totally socked in, visibility < 100 meters. Met only 5 people on the trail all day. Ascended via the old Commonwealth Creek trail (with the "Abandoned" sign where it meets the trail up to Red Pass), and the PCT on the return. Didn't leave quite enough time for the longer trail, so I was walking the last mile or so in a quality of light that, to be honest, can only be described as "night". ..." — markgarrett • Nov 4, 2015
