"This wasn't a very enjoyable summit for me. The hardest part was probably finding a parking spot and starting place. I made sure to look up past routes and do my research before doing the climb. But every starting point was either ambiguous or requires parking at a residential area. Personally, I'm not a fan of parking in a residential area so I did some more scouring and found a trip report of parking on the CVS by the base of the mountain (55th ave and Happy Valley Rd) . Sure I guess. The trip report mentioned walking through the neighborhood until reaching the base of the summit, but that didn't really work out for me. I was unable to find any access to the mountain from that particular residential area (the North side of the mountain does have access and it seems that most people climb through there). I went back to the intersection and started walking towards the base of the mountain through the Happy Valley Rd sidewalk. Very quickly I found a dirt road that seems to be used fairly often by both vehicles and bikers. This led me to finally look for a potential route to start my climb.
At this point I felt I had wasted a lot of time trying to figure out where to start and wher..." — easotelo1 • Nov 20, 2020
"After a great climb on Pyramid I knew Ludden wouldn't be as good. I ended up finding some class 3 that was forced but came across a bee hive under a rock 50 feet from the top. I got completely destroyed, getting stung 5 or 6 times on the neck and face. Not the ideal finish for the summit. " — MatthewWinterberg • Feb 28, 2019
"Before going on this little expedition, I checked out Hike-Arizona to see if there’s an official, or preferred route. The only route I found started from the northern end of Ludden Mountain, climbs to the top of the northern prominence, down to the saddle and then up to the top of the southern prominence. I wouldn’t be so bold as to say I’m an expert with topographical maps, but it seems to me that route listed is way harder than the route I took. Maybe parking is better in that area. But hey – everybody’s gotta be who they’re gonna be. Anyway, the route I took came up from the neighborhood to the east of the hill and immediately started climbing. I took my time, winding my way through the scrub brush and occasionally rock-hopping up one of the many boulder field that dot this slope. I found that the boulder hopping was actually easier than trying to fight through the scrub brush. At least I could see where I was going! I sort of zig-zagged up the slope to the left of the saddle and then before reaching the cliff-like northern end of the prominence, I veered left and sort of contoured/climbed the rest of the way up. I could see that on the saddle there was a huge field of..." — lawrencebaker • May 26, 2017
