"I took advantage of the cool weather to get back to Joshua Tree. Nice trail the whole way, and some interesting things to see. No registers at either summit, and no benchmarks either. I made it back to the car just in time, it started raining about 5 minutes later." — Mojavewanderer • Mar 28, 2022

"It's an easy, straightforward hike from the trailhead to the old mine, which was pretty cool to see. I zipped up to the summit, which had magnificent views all around, but it was clear that the "real" Lost Horse Mountain (higher than what I was standing on) was across the trail to the south. I climbed back down to the trail, got a bit closer to the ridge, then hiked on up. There was a new register nestled up there among the rocks at the summit (thanks to Mars Bonfire), and I was only the sixth or so person to sign in. After descending back to the trail, I continued along the trail to complete the Lost Horse Mine loop, which passes another mine (filled in) and what's left of what was presumably the miner's nearby house: just a stand-alone stone chimney.
I only encountered eight people on the trail that day." — HikerMark • Dec 7, 2013

"With one day of the family vacation to Disneyland set aside for peak bagging I explored several options, including San Jacinto and San Gorgiono. I settled on a few small mountains within Joshua Tree National Park, mainly because of the weather forecast and winter conditions at higher elevations in the area.
We left Anaheim at 5:45am and reached the guard post on Monument Road at 8. My wife and I have always enjoyed a nice road trip, and the alien landscape within Joshua Tree is filled with awesome sights. As we made our way through the park we could see several different stages of erosion laid out in the hills and mountains surrounding us.
Lost Horse Mountain was our first destination for the day. We started out under clear blue skies but the wind was fierce. About 2 miles in we were surprised by a few small patches of snow. Shortly afterward we left the road and followed the Southwest Ridge to the first of 3 false summits.
The wind speed continued to increase and nearly blew me over as I took pictures from the summit. The snow-capped San Jacinto and San Gorgiano mountains stood out to the West. I signed the summit log and headed down to the old mine, eyeballing or nex..." — Jeb • Feb 24, 2013

"Went to J Tree for the day while my mom and her boyfriend were visiting Palm Springs. Hiked to the old gold mine and decided to scramble the extra 200 ft to the top- well worth it." — Christopher • Feb 16, 2013
