"The hike begins at a PCT parking lot off Highway 74. To get to the peak, I crossed Highway 74 and continued south on the PCT. After 1.5 miles, I found the peak access trail that leaves the PCT to the left and climbs up a gully. The access trail is the steepest part of the hike, but it doesn’t take long to rise to the summit. With minimal to no shade, I benefitted by visiting on a cool day. The summit register and benchmark sit adjacent to a private property fence line, but the trail manages to stay off private property." — MikeTeeples • Jan 16, 2021
"I had just spent a warm, cozy night at the Silver Pines Inn in Idyllwild, but had to force myself outside into the nasty and cold weather, scrape the snow and ice off my car and climb some peaks. It alternated between rain/snow as I walked south along the PCT to the ascent gully. I saw a number of through hikers a mere 10 days or so into their 2600 mi journey. This is a relatively new route up Lookout, since the other routes were closed by the landowners. The path is well blazed with orange tape and more durable cairns. I spent only a few uncomfortable minutes at the top before heading back to the heat in my car. " — klotito • Mar 17, 2018
