"Back in the the Lake District for the first time this century thanks to a spur of the moment sidetrack breaking journey on a long M6 run. My afternoon rediscovering the fells did mean I’d later cop multiple night time motorway closures and not reach home till 2am but it was well worth it; I’d forgotten just how pretty the whole area is and should get back here more!
Parked near Peter House Farm (210m above sea level already) for a clockwise circuit on good paths. Route: Dash Falls>Bakestall>Skiddaw>Carl Side>Longside Edge. Good weather albeit cloudy on top. The sun finally came out in descent making this the highlight of the day for scenery. Longside Edge ridge was nice with some lovely views, making it a good candidate for a winter ascent I thought.
A flattering haul of eleven summits bagged as every little bump seems to be named/classified..

""My feet are sad."
Ullock Pike, Longside Edge, and Carl Side with Joanna.
Accent up 'The Edge' was just plain knackering, but totally worth it. Great views; great weather. Heart rate was pushing 160bpm at some points.
Descent towards White Stones nearly sent me on my arse at a few times due to loose rocks on the steep path. Thankfully, I had my poles, so all was good. Final path down to Dodd Wood was a little bit sketchy though, as a small section had fell off leaving a gap over a small crag. Not as much of a problem as it looked though.
Oh yeah. Seen a PLANE too." — DAB81 • May 24, 2019
"Day 4 of a walking holiday based in Bassenthwaite. We walked up from the village along quiet lanes for 2 km, left the road beyond High Side House and walked up through meadows, then onto the open hillside and up the ridge to the summit of Ullock Pike. Then we continued along the ridge to the summit of Long Side and Carl Side. After a short break, we dropped down the south ridge to White Stones, then turned W down to the col, crossed the fence into the forest and walked up to the summit of Dodd. From here we descended through the forest to Milbeck village, then Applethwaite and on to Keswick where after a swift beer we caught a bus back to Bassenthwaite." — davidlong • Aug 30, 2017
"Day 2 of a short break in the Lake District. A sunny breezy day, we set off from near Bassenthwaite village on a favourite circular walk, taking in several peaks. We walked through fields and farms, to reach the long ridge, up to Ullock Pike. From here we continued along the ridge, over Longside Edge, enjoying good views over Bassenthwaite Lake, Derwent Water, Skiddaw and the rest of the Lake District peaks, to Carl Side 746m. We then ascended steeply up the slated path to Skiddaw summit ridge and its tops 931m. After a lunch stop at the N summit, we continued N, dropping down steeply and then up onto the summit of Bakestall 673m, where we enjoyed good views of the Northern fells and across the Solway Firth to Scotland. We then dropped down Birkett Edge to Whitewater Dash Waterfalls, where we joined the Cumbria way footpath back to the road and our start point." — davidlong • Jun 19, 2013

"Leading a party of boys from the King's School, Chester. Caught the bus from Cockermouth to Ravenstone. Walked straight up hillside through young plantation. At top reached a path which would seem to have started at the track shown on the map just south of Ravenstone. Walked diagonally up hillside and then on to the ridge and Ullock Pike. Followed ridge round and up moderately steep scree. Along summit ridge to Skiddaw. Very strong wind. Returned over Little Man, and footpath via Whit Beck, Underscar to Applethwaite to main road for bus to Cockermouth. " — peter43 • Apr 15, 1962
