"Tom and I left the parking area on Floodwood Road at 7am under cloudy skies and 32°. Snowshoes for .75 miles to Long Pond. Then skied 2.5 miles in 2" of water on the pond to the trailhead . Switched to snowshoes for 1.5 miles to the summit. Trail was completely unbroken. A lot of blowdown to Mountain Pond then the climb to the summit. 3' of unbroken snow with a half inch of crust to make things interesting. Lost the trail several times. 1000' of eg in the last .8 miles to the summit. Nice views from the top. Then rinse and repeat. 6 hrs 40 mins r/t.

"This is a great little paddle / hike. We enjoyed a beautiful sunny day launching from the short carry (~0.25 miles) on Long Pond and paddling our way over the the trail head (maybe 2.5 miles or so of paddling each way). The hike is a short 1.4 miles to the summit with most of the ~1000' of gain over the last 0.8 miles for a total hiking of just under 3.5 miles including the carry and around 5 miles or so for paddling. The views from the summit are beautiful." — deb-and-rob • Jun 20, 2015
