"Yucaipa ridge extravaganza - started from Vivian Creek trailhead, climbed Galena Peak, and followed the infamous ridge all the way down to the preserve. The headwall up to Mill Creek Jumpoff is shorter and easier than most reviews would make you think, but the rockfall risk is very real. Several television set-sized boulders released unprovoked from the top of the headwall: wear a helmet! The Galena - Little San Gorgonio traverse deserves its reputation as one of Southern California's most challenging hikes. A lot of class 3/4 on questionable rock. 10 peaks, long day." — danishclimber • Jun 4, 2022

"Yucaipa Ridge Traverse! Allen to Little San Gorgonio. Stashed a bike at the Vivian Creek TH, then drove back and left the car at the entrance to the Bearpaw Reserve. From Little San G, descended a sketchy gully to Mill Creek then a quick bike ride to close the loop. Everything had gone perfectly on this traverse until the descent from Little San Gorgonio. Instead of following the standard HPS route down the ridge, I dropped down into the gravel and scree-filled chute that runs down into Camp Canyon to see if I could scree-ski my way down to Mill Creek. It was a bit of a risk and ended up being a poor decision. The chute was steep, loose, treacherous, and the rocks too large for good boot skiing. I continued downward, clumsily slipping and sliding until eventually, and as I had feared, I encountered a 30ft class 4 cliff covered in running water and moss. There was no way I was going to down-climb that and no way I was going to hike back up the garbage chute. So I turned to the side and desperately clawed my way up the steep embankment which was nothing but loose wet gravel. I kicked steps as I could an grabbed on to roots that were sticking out of the sidewall of the chute as handho..." — klotito • Apr 22, 2018
