Solo. From the Walkers’ Car Park at Kames, Muirkirk. Along the old road past the memorial cairn to John Loudon MacAdam, a pioneer of road construction. The old road was where MacAdam experimented with road construction. I went up where grouse butts are marked on the map, using bits of paths and ATV tracks to reach the standard route up Cairn Table and so to the trig point at the summit and the impressively large ancient cairn. On to Little Cairn Table with the need to climb an unfriendly gate. Used standard Cairn Table route to get back to car. Bogs not a problem; my ascent route had been chosen to avoid the bogs. Nice and sunny.
