"Class 1 terrain, a hike. Mild exposure near the summit.
I left TH under the blue skies. It's started snowing as I reached the treeline. Vicious snowstorm near the summit. As it often happens, the sun came out again when I returned to the vehicle. Have to go back for the views. Really short objective. Fast parties can do it under 2 hours." — Taras • Sep 29, 2024
"We're recovering from annoying injuries and needed a trip that required minimal commitment, but was still offered some summit inspiration. We ended up in the Highwood bagging 3 peaks. Mt Arethusa was the main objective; Storethusa and Little Arethusa were a bonus for such a short overall distance and elevation. We thought all the trip reports we read had accurate descriptions of the crux on Arethusa, however, we made two mistakes further on the ridge. After some easy and enjoyable scrambling and ridge walking, we found ourselves crawling along a very exposed and loose ledge on the west side of the ridge. It felt super sketchy, and looking back from the summit, we realized it was at least a 50m drop to a sloped scree ledge before another drop. On the way back we found the proper route along the ridge top, but it was hard to spot from the location we initially decided to take the death ledge. We were obviously not the first people to go that way, so it's worth noting the caution needed while route-finding this ridge. On the way back, Chelsea took an unneeded airy step with similar consequences (also on the west side). I marked up a photo illustrating both mistakes. These were reminde..." — ivo • Aug 31, 2024
"Slept in, had brunch, watched some football, and then went for a hike.
This is a really nice one if you are short on time. 3:15 round-trip including almost an hour on the summit.
With a late start, we avoided the crowds.
Nice larches.
Slick trail from the parking lot. Snow accumulation is significant above 24/2500 meters.

"Fogged out and had some navigational issues. The guidebook said to keep on the left side of the drainage but the path was on the right and we only met up with it after a bushwhack. Bad start... Couldn't see our objective, so went a bit south and climbed up some nasty steep gully up to a point where the scrambling started to look like climbing... went down and then backtracked again to the left side of the drainage we had originally taken and followed it to the base of Little Arethusa. When the clouds dissipated, we saw Arethusa further back. Another time. Saw a grizzly mother and two cubs on the drive in, which was great." — leigh-annewebster • Aug 2, 2017
